broke two of the door handles off two my car and one of my neighbour's last night. not sure they were trying to steal the car, or even anything from within - just delighting in causing damage. so i've been to two garages, the police and spent half an hour on the phone to the insurers. given my excess this will cost me at least £50.

i am not 'down on youth' as a general rule but i'm sure these sorts of anti-social crimes are committed by bored teenagers - i expect jackfrost has to deal with this sort of sh**y behaviour everyday. i would like to make them pay back the £50 with interest, by doing some work around the place: plenty of low level gardening needs doing, and the cellar needs clearing out and there's always cleaning work. 10 hours for me and 10 hours for my neighbour should do the trick.

that is if the police ever catch them. which they won't. because its small beer, a bit of criminal damage. in the cop shop a TV declared that there were 1,023 less convictions last month 'which means 1,023 less crimes' - no it doesn't. it means 1,023 less convictions

another great day in beijing. britons won medals in all sorts of things.
a very big man and a sometimes naked woman won gold for going very fast in tight lycra and silly hats; christine owowlookathergogo won gold for running really fast while mason got silver by jumping over a stick onto a giant cushion. a very happy chap in a boat got a gold one too. my favourite was probably the former bouncer from sunderland who has a guaranteed bronze after beating up a hungarian.
already we've won medals for impersonating dolphins, riding horses in silly costumes, rowing backwards until you are sick, chasing people on bikes, something called yngling, playing grown up pooh sticks and riding a make-believe horse in ballet shoes. its amazing!

early start at the emirates and despite the best efforts of the arsenal box office to confuse (my print out said go to gates N and M but the geezer on the gate said it should be J and sent me packing) i was in my seat, overlooking the massed ranks of baggies, by 12.30. a curious and disappointing game in some ways despite the win. arsenal started well, and within 4 minutes new boy nasri cooly finished a great move and the crowd roared its approval. we settled back and waited for adebayor et al to rip the albion apart. but it didn't happen. the baggies wobbled for 20 minutes and even gallas got in on the act, a long short just missing carson's right post, but then they came right back into it. baggies fans made lots of noise and have adopted psalm 23 (the lord's my shepherd) as an anthem and with God on their side we never really had a chance ;D

second half it was pretty even, and the introduction of rvp did little to improve things. we need cesc and rosicky back, and someone needs to invite eboue to inspect a large hole on hackney marshes... we can play a lot better and we will play sides less well organised than west brom. its too early to predict much for the season - a new signing in midfield is much needed (alonso would be brilliant but the scousers are surely not daft enough to sell him..). the spuds lost at boro, hull equalled derby's records wins for last year and cambridge are top of the conference with maximum points (9) after beating new boys barrow. spoke to several baggies after the game and i told them i think wba will be ok this season if they play as well - hope so, they have some good players and they are no bolton.

as for the booing of adebayor, it was because he was playing badly - too lazy and casual - on several occasions he missed the chance to put a team mate in. ok, he wants to score and hear the cheers of the home crowd, but he screwed up in the summer allowing his greed to overwhelm his talent. arsenal fans will not forgive him but we will forget if he starts banging them in. no better place to start than at craven cottage on saturday.

but the arsenal weather the storm - fc twente 0-2 arsenal

not a great performance but job done with away goals and a home leg to come in two weeks. by then hopefully we might a) have some of our injured-already-for-gods-sake players back (cesc, kolo, swiss tony, rosicky, diaby, nasri, and of course eduardo all injured) and b) arsene might have bought someone to play in midfield. ramsey and denilson did ok tonight, but the opposition wasn't very good. RVP said they were the spuds of the dutch league, and they are managed by steve mcclaren :))

We looked slow all over the pitch, lacking leadership: as if it was still a pre-season match not a millionsquillion dollar ticket to the champions-and-everybody-else league.
verdict:must do better (i'm off to the emirates on saturday to see if things improve against the baggies)

last night i went to the abbey to see cambridge finally beat kidderminster after 49 years (it was a long game) ;D New manager, lots of new faces in the team (little dutch winger felino looks good), even the back of the newmarket road end had a splash of paint. we have a new song - an anthem - printed fliers were given out with detailed instructions! the flintstones song has gone (it had a verse 'and we've never lost at wem-ber-lee' :**: ) and no sniff of ring of fire. but the support was awesome once again. its weird following the loudest AND the quietest supported teams in the country!

im not following the olympics avidly but in coffee breaks between losing words (its a long story, but not as long as it was...) i have flipped onto the beeb for updates. poor tom daly has dealt with the media pretty well for a 14 year-old. it sounds balanced, focused and not at all full of himself. unfortunately he seems to have had an off day and he and his partner finished last in the synchronized diving. his partner seems to have taken this badly

so much for the olympic spirit eh, play up and play the game wot wot
