chepstow castle had a sort of living history day - which was a little soggy after a day of rain. about a dozen or so folk re-enacted the siege of chepstow castle from the civil wars/english revolution.. very LOUD cannon which scared my (3yr old) neice. she recovered soon after in the gift shop but was a good advert for pacifism! wars are NOISY, and FRIGHTENING, lets do colouring in instead.. george dubya take note.. out of the mouths of babes they say.
anyway these are some pics
the chap in the lobster pot is the leader of the parliamentarians (who were attacking), weirdly their cannon was served by 3 women.. is this accurate? it made an impressive BANG anyway
the next chap is a royalist musketeer who was jeering at oliver's army (the soldiers not the hit record for elvis), finally not everyone was impressed..
