is this any way to spend easter?

by blacksheep63 @ Sunday, Mar. 23, 2008 - 11:45:06

well happy easter folks, or summer finding as the norse celebrate: this is the day to celebrate the light of the sun becoming more powerful than darkness. so i wake up and the garden has turned white. no sign of the cat so i expect one of the other flats has taken pity on him and let him stop inside or perhaps he has snuck off to one of his many other 'homes'. a new feline has appeared in the garden recently: a black and white tabby, female. She is acting just like cato did two years ago: coming ever closer, emboldened. so maybe by the end of the summer i will be feeding two strays. its a slippery slope to becoming a local weirdo like the woman who plays a electric organ outside M&S (very badly) to raise money for her army of mangy cats.

i am a little at a loss today. easter sunday is never a good day for me, nothing is open - i don't have children to deny eggs to, its dangerously close to my birthday (a time of the year i traditionally dislike..it depresses me), its cold (i don't like snow..except the way it looks). i have some marking to do but have little appetite for it. at half one i will go and watch football for four or more hours in the pub. i doubt i shall enjoy that either: triumphal mancs (as they will certainly beat l'poo) then an hour and a half of nail chewing as we try and beat the chavs. tomorrow i am going to visit some friends in the late afternoon and then in the week i will get back to writing at last. most of the college chores are over once i finish this latest batch of essay marking.

i sort of want to go away for a few days but i cant decide where. i am invited to go north - to scotland - but its a very long way to go for a long weekend, strangely further than going to france. i thought about a city break - to prague or amsterdam - but until my expenses come through from lisbon my bank account is a little stretched. so perhaps i should just stay put. easter sunday.. who needs it ? no wonder people stuff themselves with anti-depressant chocs

you never know, united might draw and 'orrible arsenal might win!
anyway, if you're stuck for a city break, go to stockholm.
i love it there.

Yesterday I felt like you seem to be feeling today. Felt at a loss and totally restless - just couldn't settle down to anything.

You seem to have had more snow than we did. Wasn't enough to settle and now it's just grey, cold and wet outside. Hey!Ho! as they say.....

Hope you manage to cheer up a wee bit before the end of the day.

SOrry you are feeling so low.

Scotland can be ok for a long weekend depending on which bit you are going to and how you are getting there. Then again,
Prague is great at Easter. If you have not already been, you should go to Pvorski Dum which is a nice restaurant that serves great food "Hunter's rabbit" and lots of different types of beer and Bohemian mead. HOpe you enjoy whichever option you choose.

I don't usually like my birthday either, but last year was the first good one since I was a kid and so far this year has been nice too.

Hope your cat is ok.

Hugs

X

Oh Scotland is beautiful and worth the trip.

But always cold

This Easter has been so cold that the best place to be is at home

oh scotland's beautiful but is aberdeen? if i could just blink my eyes and be there.. its the thought of 9 hours or so in a car/train/coach/pony and trap that is putting me off

Well I have friends just outside Aberdeen so I suppose I should say "yes". But the West is best.

I recently spent a week in the Western Highlands in a place called Aultbea. It was truly jaw-dropping despite the blisteringly cold weather. I would never catch a train there tho'. I prefer to drive but you could catch a plane.

no not a plane, i have left my carbon footprint this year already and that was unavoidable i won't fly again in 2008. the west is indeed the best, the picture on my blog is from raasay in the hebrides, i shall go back there in the summer its just a shame i cant teleport

Funny that I came across your post - been feeling that way all weekend. Don't quite know! lol I can't quite get why men watch football when they know it will cause them further misery! It happens here too! :)

Aberdeen sucks IMHO. Bleak granite and bloody freezing. I spent three years in St Andrews and it was always windy. We used to train it down to London every month, with a large picnic, wine and books. Was fun.
Yes I will grant that the highlands are scenic etcm but I grew up in Wales so that will always come first to me. Both Wales and Scotland have old bones; residual anti-English attitudes, which is another reason why I like London. And New York!
