good morning - david cameron wants the long term unemployed to do community work to earn their benefits. what do i make of this? recently ive been unnerved by how reasonable toryboy sounds when i hear him. he has a seductive manner that contrasts very noticeably with gordon broon and i fear he may succeed where the last few tory hopefuls have failed. but this is a typically tory policy. think about it - cameron says it will help those 'out of touch' with work to get back into the swing of regular employment. it may. but the punitive element: refuse to work on the roads or clearing up mess etc and you will lose benefits. that sounds more like pure thatcherism. mrsT would have said 'make em work or let em starve' - cameron is too savvy and knows that wont wash with non-conservative voters. he has learned from the last ten years. so beware, in a few years time we may have a right wing government led by a persuasive yong politian who sounds ever so reasonable... and i thought we'd just got rid of blair..
